One-Pass Trenching > DTE Landfill Groundwater Capture System    MERSINO was contracted to provide a groundwater capture and discharge system to address impacted groundwater near this active landfill. After thorough examination of the site, the MERSINO project team designed an effective system utilizing approximately 8200 lineal feet of perforated six-inch HDPE pipe. In order to install the trenching system in the saturated, mostly silty conditions, MERSINO first installed a wellpoint dewatering system along the entire trench line. This was necessary because the project also required the installation of 10 - 48-inch manholes and 35 - 6-inch cleanout structures on the proposed collection system. Phase One of the project was completed in 2008 and consisted of 3500 lineal feet of 6-inch perforated HDPE pipe ranging in depth from four to 29 vertical feet. The pipe was installed on grade utilizing our 6050 Interdrain One-Pass Trencher. The trencher was linked to a global positioning system (GPS) which accurately installed the pipe to the desired grade or invert to assure proper functioning of the system. MERSINO was again contracted to assist with Phase Two of the project, which is scheduled to begin August, 2009 and will include an additional 4,500 lineal feet of 6-inch perforated HDPE pipe.
