Regional Estimating Engineer
Locations: Southern and Gulf Regions
The Regional Estimating Engineer (REE) is assigned a region and responsible for reviewing project documents (geotechnical reports, borings, plans, and project specifications), designing, and reviewing cost-effective Bypass and/or Dewatering pumping systems/solutions, scouring the bid-specific market, writing quotations, and communicating with customers and contractors. The position is based out of the assigned region (either Gulf or South Region.)
The REE provides technical and administrative aid to the sales staff as well as information to the general construction industry regarding Complete Dewatering Systems, Bypass Pumping, Power Generation Services, and One-Pass Trenching Services. Works with the inside estimating/sales team covering a wide scope of responsibilities.
The position requires up to 75% travel within assigned region providing branches with engineering support.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate engineering plans, drawings and specifications to prepare estimates and detailed technical reports, and analyses based on engineering specifications
- Perform mathematical and engineering calculations and estimates
- Assist with system design, such as, but not restricted to, hydraulic analysis, fluid dynamics, and system modeling
- Write detailed commercial and technical descriptions for project proposals
- Evaluate search outputs for strong bidding opportunities for the company
- Assist in writing comprehensive quotations based on the data provided and the knowledge of Mersino’s cost structure and product line to be delivered by the customer relations staff
- Assist with the gathering of technical data on projects, analyzing that data, and preparing reports to summarize project details
- Preparation of required project Submittals and/or Power Point Presentations
- Assist with resolving problems in system design
- Schedule and conduct progress meetings for larger projects with the AM & PM.
- Participate in post-audit analysis of project results including cost management and objectives achieved
- Observe, retain, and apply skills and knowledge obtained at the workplace to help elevate the regions understanding of complex pumping systems
- Conduct post-project audits and analyses of completed projects
- Review internal estimates for technical accuracy and pricing
- Field phone calls and direct sales leads to appropriate personnel
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Geology, Hydrogeology, Geotechnical Engineering, or an equivalent amount of school or work experience in a related field
- Previous experience in commercial pumping applications or construction estimating
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Planning and organizational skills
- Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to problem solve using technical data
- Strongly self-motivated, ability to perform tasks with little or no direction
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and/or technical manuals preferred
- Knowledge of budget cost estimating and bidding procedures preferred

- Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward
