Run time: 02/25-06/25

Projected Value: $900,000

Project Details:

                    • Project Name: Maurice DeMuynck Pump Station Outlet Rehab
                    • Location: Chesterfield, MI
                    • Customer: L D’Agostini
                    • Responsible Branch: Detroit

Overview:

This project began as a potential emergency response due to the collapse of the outfall pipe under Jefferson Street. Although it eventually went to bid, our Detroit branch was brought in due to our long-standing relationship with L D’Agostini and our established reputation. Although a competitor submitted a bid, Mersino was engaged during the emergency phase and ultimately written into the project’s specifications.

Actions:

The job requires us to bypass 50 million gallons per day (MGD) of stormwater to rehabilitate the outfall pipe. Many days of planning went into the project to strategize the best route, so after multiple drawings of avenues were established, we ultimately chose the best option. We used various equipment such as numerous sizes of GST pumps and 4400 feet of HDPE pipe.

Overcoming Challenges:

The jobsite experienced a snowfall prior to the set up stage, so thawing ground presented some issues, as well as hard rainfall for many days. We also ran into an issue with one of our discharge pipes firing up, which we resolved by removing the pipe and installing an extra 300 feet per discharge. Although there were multiple challenges we had to face, we kept moving the bypass along and eventually completed the project early.

Results:

The feedback was excellent; everything was set up great, and not all the pumps had to be run. The Call boxes worked perfectly, and the customer was left very satisfied. Due to such success, we have strengthened our relationship with the customer, proving ourselves to be the best solution to their problem.
