Processing Plant Water Inlet Pipe Collapsed in Dead of Winter
ISSUE:
In freezing temperatures, an unexpected collapse of the water inlet pipe resulted in a complete shutdown of operations at a processing plant on the Detroit River. The company is the largest industrial gases company in North and South America. They contracted with Mersino to provide temporary water supply for the plant.
OBJECTIVE:
Provide a steady stream of water into the industrial facility.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 74,000 GPM
- Five 18 in. diesel Trash Auto-Prime pumps manufactured by Global Pump Company
- Two 12 in. diesel Trash Auto-Prime pumps manufactured by Global Pump Company
- Mersino provided HDPE pipe and fusion services for connecting to the plants piping system
- Mersino personnel were on site after setup to insure smooth operation of pumps during the extreme weather conditions
OUTCOME:
Within 72 hours, the plant was 100% operational, exceeding the client's initial goal of having 1/4 of the plant on line.
